Music Director

Sheila White comes from a musical family and is a “lifetime songwriter” whose late parents were founding members of DHUC.  Sheila’s father, Bill White, was a huge musical influence at home, Don Heights and in the broader community.  Sheila has taken up his baton and is the DHUC Music Director and choir leader.

A frequent performer, Sheila is a singer and composer who has written more than 150 songs, 24 of which appear in “Power of Song: New Hymns for a New Age”, the Don Heights Singers’ publication of original music.

Sheila plays piano, trombone, the recorder and guitar.

Don Heights Singers

The Don Heights Singers has the distinction of writing original songs included in the songbook “Power of Song”.  These and other Unitarian and secular songs are performed at services two times a month.  The Don Heights Singers rehearse every Tuesday starting at 7:00 pm, led by our choir leader Sheila White.  New members are welcome to join who enjoy singing with a small group.

Musicians

At Don Heights, guest musicians regularly perform classical, jazz, modern and folk music.  Guest musicians come twice per month. Please see our Bulletin for further biographical information on our current guest musicians.

Power of Song: New Hymns for a New Age

Don Heights Singers is the only choir we know of that has written its own book of hymns. These are no ordinary hymns. They are intended for everyone to sing together regardless of faith or creed. The lyrics hold meaning for everyone. “Power of Song: New Hymns for a New Age” is now available to you. Thirty truly beautiful songs, they give praise to peace and joy, the environment and hope, messages needed now more than ever. Themes are varied – world harmony, a tribute to mothers, a baby’s song. There are new songs for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Eid and the winter Solstice. While one hymn is dedicated to the Unitarian principles, the book is for not one but all religions. Bound in a colour illustrated folio, this 82-page book of songs, photos and poetry is offered to all who love to sing – choirs and choral group leaders, soloists and musicians, music-lovers and their families, children and adults. Buy it and support live music and songwriters. All proceeds from the sale of “Power of Song” will go to further Don Heights Unitarian Congregation’s programming for music and the arts.
